Right now sitting at work and counting the minutes until I am free (leaving at the end of the month). Stressed right now because lease is up as well and I have to decide if I'm going to stay here or pack it up and head off into the sunset for another place entirely. Who knows what will happen? Me least of all these days. Anyway, aiming for Wednesday to make up my mind. I think that's fair. Recently returned from several days on the Best Coast...wedding in Las Vegas, drove through the Mojave Desert to SF, spent a few days there with friends and then drove down the coast for a long weekend in LA with cute, fabulous boyfriend. It was absolutely heavenly. More later.

3:51 pm - In the mood for something new?
Emerging Arts is thrilled to introduce Cupcake at Lolita, a new

Please join us for the launch party on Wednesday, June
11, at 7:30pm, featuring Donna Minkowitz and Aury
Wallington.

Donna Minkowitz is the author of the Lambda Literary
Award winning memoir Ferocious Romance. A feature
witer for the Village Voice for eight years, she has
performed her work at The Kitchen and is at work on a
new childhood memoir she describes as, "sort of a
cross between "Dr. Seuss and Primo Levi." Minkowitz
has also won writing awards from Radcliffe and GLAAD,
and written for Salon.com.

Aury Wallington has worked as Script Coordinator on
the HBO show "Sex and the City" for the past five
years, and will be writing for the show this season.
She has published a number of stories and articles,

More about Cupcake:

Perhaps you've noticed a big pink pile of books in
your local Barnes and Noble about women, shoes,
wanting to lose fifteen pounds, snagging a husband,
and working for bitchy New York ladies with harsh
haircuts.

Perhaps, week after week, you've counted up the 0-2
(super-established) women published in the New Yorker,
counted up the 9-13 men, and come to depressing
conclusions you wish you could've reached before you
decided to become a writer, get educated, and take out
all those loans. Same goes for the New York Times
Review of Books. The New York Times Magazine.

Perhaps the only thing you could think to do about
this was to start a literary chapter of the Guerrilla
Girls, but you had to check in with your temp agency
first.

Perhaps you're not a writer, perhaps you're just cool,
and you want to come out to hear some amazing,
grown-up, talented, punk rock, experienced, serious
women writers read work that will inspire you and give
you little tingles everywhere.

Perhaps you have been wondering: where are the
literary versions of PJ Harvey and Sleater-Kinney?

Perhaps you'd like a Cupcake:

Because you've had enough chick-lit and it's time for
dessert.

5:04 pm - No. 5 Query St.
Q) What makes you want to sing?
My answer: Not much these days; the rain makes me wish I were Nina Simone.

Q: Rain as a metaphor? please elaborate.
My answer: Every raindrop was once an earthbound dream

Q: One word that begins with a D that sums you up.
My answer: Devastating

Q: If you could have named yourself....
My answer: My mom almost named me Ruby, after her favorite aunt, and I've always regretted that didn't happen. I'm sure I would choose something ridiculous like Tiger Lily if given half a chance.

Q: Rate the current state of your life. How does it compare with your other personal epochs?
My answer: Everything is wonderful - crazy, unpredictable, scary and wonderful.

4:53 pm - five queues
Q)What is the summer equivalent of a cozy, comforting winter scarf?
My answer: flip-flop sandals from the drugstore

Q)What do you love most about this time of year (late-spring)?
My answer: Light long-sleeves instead of big winter jackets

Q)Finish this statement - It's official: ______________.
My answer: My plans are wide open.

Q)Read any good books or listened to a great album lately?
My answer: Just bought a new bio of the Mitford sisters, been listening to lots of bossa nova, read the Time Out Guide to LA on the train yesterday and made a list of all the things I plan to do on my next trip to the Best Coast

Q)What are you looking forward to these days?

Got invited to a wedding in Las Vegas - don't know the couple, which makes it about a thousand times better...booked my ticket for that and then a few days on the coast...ah, bliss...counting the minutes until I'm there. I can't believe how fast this is all going by, this year, this job, this little life I've carved out for myself in this teeming metropolis. I can't believe I have to go to Las Vegas twice in the next two months...and then, back to pack and I'm gone!

Lately, things have been just frenetic. My life seems consumed by work (compensated and voluntary) and in the past two days, have had two separate people in two separate incidents comment on my preternatural efficiency. Trying to plan multiple events, handle my day job, make a major life decision and do it all with time to spare. Just realized I would feel a lot better if I took five minutes to enjoy a cup of tea and just relax. Off to it then.
